  • Desertas Islands Madeira

The Desertas are approximately 35km (22mi) southeast of Madeira and consists of three small islands.  The three Ilhas Desertas; Ilhéu Chão, Deserta Grande and Bugio, happen to be one of the last refuges for the monk seal.

Due to harsh conditions and lack of fresh water, these islands are deserted.  The Ilhas Desertas Nature Reserve has been protected since the early 90's.  Here you will have the opportunity to go ashore or visit the caves and sea cliffs, dive, swim and relax in crystalline waters.

During the journey between Madeira and Desertas you may be lucky enough to see some of the amazing wild life in Madeira Islands including : dolphins, whales, seabirds, turtles and Monk seals.
